Notes:
Roald Hoffmann’s presentation on publishing and peer review – is linked from that page, and there are other interesting recordings there too from Journal editors reviewing articles. Roald is a nobel laureate in Chemistry.
Reviewing – most publishers have online statements about becoming a reviewer, see Wiley’s and Elsevier’s.
H-Index –Measuring Your Research Impact, talks about several research indices that are used to measure author productivity and impact. One that is popular is the H-index, (example: a scientist with an H-Index of 37 has 37 papers cited at least 37 times.). This guide talks about the pros and cons of the indices. Google created the i10-Index = the number of publications with at least 10 citations. There is a lot of discussion of these indices, and while they can be gamed and overrated, they are still used in promotion and tenure decisions.
