Overview
One key mission of all NSF-funded Materials Innovation Platforms is to support the commercialization of the Materials-by-Design methodology that is enabled by the Materials Genome Initiative (MGI). PARADIM recognizes that industrial users operate under different constraints than academic users and has tailored access procedures to meet these conditions.
Access to PARADIM facilities is available to industry users on a fee-for-service basis. PARADIM recognizes the importance of intellectual property and has crafted a dedicated industrial user program to acknowledge this. Unlike academic proposals which receive full external review, industrial proposals are only internally assessed by PARADIM faculty and staff. This assessment focuses only on safety, feasibility, and materials compatibility issues. Details of potential applications need not be revealed. Of course, PARADIM staff can be most helpful when they gain more understanding of scope of a particular problem. PARADIM staff can sign non-disclosure agreements as necessary; alternatively, they can merely instruct in equipment use and stand back. Most importantly, industrial users of PARADIM retain all data, IP rights, and rights to publication of their results.
Access to all PARADIM facilities and the expertise of PARADIM staff is available through this user fee for service mechanism and does not require the more normal sponsored programs mechanism. For information about industrial access to PARADIM facilities, please contact Dr. Thomas Dienel, Associate Platform Director.
